UPDATE: I would like to describe the effectiveness of this charger as degrading. At first, it worked fine, but then the compatibility issues start to show up as described below. Finally, after about 2 months of owning and using it, I began to experience what other reviewers had and in short the charger no longer charges my battery at all. I figure that this cannot be an operating system error because when you actually plug it in and turn on the laptop (Inspiron 1501), the BIOS shows an error that actually says you need to plug in a Dell branded charger to continue. Furthermore, my Dell rejects the charger even when I plug it in after turning it on! SIGH! The lesson is to stick with Dell brands since they made their laptops in such a way that never guarantees full compatibility with these lower brands. I used Google Products and I found an original one for $25 + ($9 SH) from a reputable dealer called partsnb. I'll see how this turns out..

I bought this charger to replace the charger I had for a Dell Inspiron 1501. When the product arrived, I was satisfied with it because not only did it work with my Dell but the cable was nearly 1.5 times as long as my old Dell-brand charger, which is great for reaching far outlets. The product charges just as well and as quickly as my old charger, and what's more, I bought it at about $40 cheaper than what Dell would have sold me on their website.

Okay, so now on to the bad news. This charger while it works most of the time as it says it does and as I have witnessed, it does have some compatibility issues. There are those times (2/5 tries) where you plug in the charger and the laptop "recognizes" that it is plugged in; however, the battery itself does not begin to charge. So in essence, the laptop is just acting as if it's plugged in, without any battery. There is a simple fix to this however: just pull out the charger from the laptop and plug it back in until the laptop recognizes it and starts to charge the battery. This seems to work well for me, and is just a little bug in the whole big picture.
